Jose Mourinho happy with Man United win but wanted more goals at Celta

Jose Mourinho was happy with Manchester United's performance but not the scoreline despite watching his team take a big step towards the Europa League final.

Marcus Rashford's second-half free kick gave United a 1-0 win against Celta Vigo in Spain in the first leg of their semifinal.

But the cushion could have been more comfortable had Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Jesse Lingered converted golden chances.

"I am pleased with the performance, not so pleased with the result," Mourinho told BT Sport. "At half-time it should be already -- I don't want to say three, but two. But the result is open and so next week a big match at Old Trafford."

After scoring United's extra-time winner against Anderlecht in the last round, it was Rashford again who scored the crucial goal.

The only downside for Mourinho on the night was watching the teenager limp off 10 minutes from time with what appeared to be a knee injury.

Ashley Young is also a new injury doubt after being forced off with a hamstring injury.

"[Rashford] is a 19-year-old kid, but a 19-year-old kid who is in love with football," Mourinho added. "After every training session, he waits half an hour more to take free kicks and then waits for the opportunity.

"It's just his mentality. He works, he works, he works. He's very mature. Let's forget the age because what matters is not the age but the quality.

"He started the game already with a little problem. And obviously with the running he was feeling it. [Anthony] Martial was fresh and we thought we could still score because there was plenty of space to play."

With only one goal to show for a dominant performance, Mourinho conceded the tie is still "open." And he called on the United fans to help push his team towards the final in Stockholm when Celta Vigo visit Old Trafford next week.

"We tried until the end to score goals but we missed chances," he said. "The team was good, was strong and could make a strong atmosphere look nice.

"I think we played really well. A very good performance. It's good. Now a match at Old Trafford. Let's hope Old Trafford wants us to win because when they want, we win. Let's hope."

Mourinho is now set to make a host of changes for the trip to Arsenal on Sunday, even with a place in the Premier League's top four still up for grabs. And he insisted he had not changed his mind despite victory in Spain.

Mourinho said: "The players that are in accumulation, the players that are with lots of minutes because we played nine matches in April and this one, so 10 matches in four-and-a-half weeks. The players that are in accumulation, they are not going to play next weekend.''

Celta, playing in their first major European semifinal, lost for the first time in their last six European games.

"We are going to have to go there and score goals, as we did other times," coach Eduardo Berizzo said. "We play in a similar way at home and away, we will try to be more effective than we were today."

Or as forward Iago Aspas put it: "We will fight until the end in Old Trafford."
