Manchester City still hoping to sign Alexis Sanchez - sources

LOS ANGELES -- Manchester City are still hopeful of signing Alexis Sanchez, but may be forced to switch their top attacking target if Arsenal maintain their position that he is not for sale.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has reiterated his stance that the Chilean striker will remain at the club amid speculation that Paris Saint-Germain want to sign him. Sanchez has only one year remaining on his Arsenal contract but Wenger insists he will not be sold despite the danger that he could leave for free at the end of next season.
The 28-year-old says he wants to play in the Champions League but Arsenal did not qualify for the competition after only finishing fifth in the Premier League season.
Sources have told ESPN FC that he would prefer a move to the Etihad Stadium and the opportunity to work with his former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola.
report in the Independent also claims that he is even prepared to take a lower salary than he has been offered by potential suitors PSG, Bayern Munich and Juventus.
Guardiola wants to add one more forward and has made Sanchez his priority target after working with him at the Nou Camp and seeing how successful he has been in the Premier League.
His ability to play anywhere across the forward line and behind a striker is a huge asset and the City boss is determined to have plenty of competition for places.
City are one of a number clubs interested in Monaco's highly-rated teenager Kylian Mbappe but sources say a deal is unlikely to happen this summer.
Meanwhile, striker Wilfried Bony could be heading out of the club with Swansea City close to re-signing their former player.
The Ivorian, who left the Welsh club in a £28m deal two-and-a-half years ago, is not with City on their preseason tour to the United States after spending last season on loan at Stoke City.
A deal is dependent on the future of Swansea striker Fernando Llorente, who has been linked with a move to Chelsea, according to sources.
