Mexico can make Germany suffer in Confed Cup semi - Javier Hernandez

SOCHI, Russia -- Bayer Leverkusen striker Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez says Mexico can find ways to give Germany trouble in a Confederations Cup semifinal on Thursday.

"We know some of their qualities, some of the ways we can make them suffer," Hernandez said in a news conference on Wednesday. "We're going to focus on our way, on our system. It doesn't 100 percent matter what they do ... we want to do our best to try to stop them, make a lot of danger and win the match."

Hernandez, 29, signed for Bundesliga side Leverkusen from Manchester United in the summer of 2015 and has scored 28 league goals over two seasons, but doesn't feel his inside knowledge will be particularly useful at national team level.

"We are playing against the German national team, it's different," he said.

Hernandez is adamant that Mexico's best quality so far in the Confederations Cup has been the squad's strength in depth and is desperate to start in any position against Germany at Fisht Stadium.

"I'm not bothered what position I play, [but] no one wants to be on the bench," said the Guadalajara native. "I've played on the left wing in two games and as center-forward ... We are a great national team that can go toe-to-toe with anyone. It'll be a very nice game."

Mexico boss Juan Carlos Osorio also spoke in the same news conference and said that while the German squad may be young, the players have vast experience, making Die Mannschaft an example to follow for Mexico and other countries.

"We are taking on a nation that could be the example to follow for those of us that believe in processes," said Osorio. "We all profoundly admire the world champion.

"We have the chance to play against Germany and represent Mexican football, CONCACAF and a country that wants to emulate and learn from the great countries like Germany in a dignified way." 

Germany coach Joachim Low admitted that Mexico could not be taken lightly.

"They have really evolved in the past few years. They have a certain playing style and really, they set out to hunt the ball and their technical preparation is sharp."

The first Confederations Cup semifinal takes place between Portugal and Chile in Kazan on Wednesday night.
